I know the pressures of the performance world, being an ex-performer myself...
I come from a performing background myself, so I know the trials and tribulations that come along with working at such an intense level.
I know the pressures of being a high performing individual and the pressures and perils of the “business” as an actor in an industry we love so much and will do anything for.
After 25+ years performing, I encountered an injury - a life changing injury that has shaped the way my life is now.
When I came out of the industry, I really started to realise how little support there was for anyone in regards to their health, fitness, nutrition and mindset.
Let’s go back to when it all started…
I had suffered badly with my relationship with food and disordered eating in my 20’s, something I thought I had put to bed, but following this shoot I suffered with BED (binge eating disorder) on and off for the 2 years following.
I also lost my menstrual cycle (amenorrhea) for the entire duration too.
I was embarrassed to talk about it, my body was angry with me, my hormones were all over the place and I honestly felt like a crazy fraud as a coach that I could have allowed it to happen.
After having been through years of suffering when I was younger and those few years, it’s now my responsibility to make sure the people I work with never go through the same.
Fast forward a good few years, and here we are…
Rapidly changing the way actors, actresses, performers and busy professionals approach their health, focusing on getting them to where they want to be, in the most effective way possible and ensuring they never make the mistakes I did during my career.
When I was a performer, working insane hours week in, week out, putting my body under immense pressures and strains, I had no idea that this wasn’t normal.
- I thought training was for punishing my body into a certain shape.
- I thought food was the enemy.
- I thought it was normal to be obsessed with how I looked.
In the performance industry, unless you’re in Hollywood, there isn’t really any constant support to help you with your training or nutrition throughout your career.
wHICH IS LEAVING PERFORMERS OPEN TO THE SAME MISTAKES I MADE
Understanding how your body reacts is critical - especially when you’re performing at such an intense level.
And it’s why I’m so determined to change the way performers approach their health.
